Hi!  My name is Maria Inês Rato and I’m from Lisbon, Portugal.
...
I was born in Lisbon in 1979 and went to live in Macau at the age of 7. I came back when I was 12 years old.

Learning and speaking foreign languages has been a part of my life, so translation was just the next step. I’ve achieved an advanced level in English, intermediate levels in French and German, and now my latest challenge is Spanish.
...
I have three passions in life:
  • Learning: I work full time but I’m also student. I have a degree in Economics (Universidade Nova de Lisboa – Faculdade de Economia) and I’m currently studying for a degree in European Studies through the Open University system. Not forgetting Spanish lessons every Saturday morning.
  • Traveling: I’m always planning my next trip. I’ve fallen in love with Europe, but would love to return to Asia one day.
  • Reading: you’ll never see me walking out of my home without a book in my backpack, fiction or non-fiction. And I make my own bookmarks out of my used airplane tickets.

I started volunteering as a translator in September 2006 and have loved every moment of it.
