SILKE REICHRATH

German, English, Spanish and French language translator Board Member of Community Empowerment Collective Society

Profile

I was born and raised in West Germany, but my love of travel and meeting people from different cultures brought me to Canada. I studied French and Spanish in Calgary with the intent to teach or work as a translator.

After a summer in Guatemala with its complexities and contradictions, I decided to go on to development studies. I returned to Central America many more times as a volunteer, student, and professional, while also learning more about other regions of the world and various development issues.

I have worked on a range of issues related to peace building, participatory approaches to natural resource management, and public health.

Meanwhile, my new family took me on a very different journey, learning about baby care and preschooler- entertainment, patience and human nature.

Being somewhat less mobile, I have focused more on languages and translations again and was happy to find Phil’s Community Empowerment site, which allows me to do translations relating to development issues.
